Because even if the calibration device is a very good, the monitor is set optimally, it still depends on the photo sent what comes out at the end. I personally would send the same photos in the same format (jpg or tiff) with the same color space (sRGB or Adobe RGB '98) to various mail order companies and have them print it in the same size.
