Chanthaburi
Actually, I proceed directly to the island of Ko Chang, but as fate would have it I did not come until relatively late from the border road, so I had to spend a night in Chanthaburi. But somehow it gefiehl me here, so I decided to spend the whole weekend here.
Chanthaburi is therefore the Southeastern stronghold of the gem trade and it shows on every corner Juwelenlaeden. I'm not a play for it;)
Let's start with some history. End of the 19th 2 things have happened cent for the current very marked, the one at the time was a French colony, Cambodia, and since at that time the boundary between Siam and Cambodia was often moved Chanthaburi was at times in French hands. This explains the most important SIGHTS of the city, a cathedral, the largest Southeast Asia that I visited, of course. Furthermore
have been sold at that time, many Vietnamese Christians from Vietnam, and they found a home here, of course. Other refugees came from Vietnam by the way Again because of the Indochina war and after the takeover of Communists.
are therefore about 40% of the population here Vietnamese.
The city itself has not really much to offer, so here are hardly any tourists, which I liked. Here we see the real Thailand.
On the second day of my visit, I wanted to go to the nearby National Park, with my morgendlichn Stadtspatziergang I discovered, however, the King Thaksin the Great Park (how can something called Park in Thailand anderst) a very nice park in the middle of the city, and I decided to spend the day here. Towards evening, when the sun is not quite as bangs and run very many joggers in the park, even coming to a Central Park New York atmosphere.
After 2 months in Laos / Cambodia Thailand is the way, before I was much more modern than before. It is clean, fairly organized and very much advanced. Tomorrow we will finally be retired next to Ko Chang.
