Varanasi (Judith) Indien-Kalkutta
After a very uncomfortable first train journey in a far too cold train we arrived in Varanasi. There we have let us first take a rickshaw to the ghats on the Ganges and we have a Guest House sought.
Varanasi has 80 ghats, which are stairs that lead to the banks of the Ganges. There, the Indians go back to their regular morning ablutions to be performed and to bathe in a river. Varanasi is the holiest, oldest and most Indian city. You feel somehow transported back in time. In Varanasi The Indians burned the dead right on the banks of the Ganges. Since this is very expensive, but (60 €) can only afford very few. According to Hindu faith is the soul of the dead directly to Nirvana when he is burned by the Ganges. We have even seen up close the dead in the fire. Until a body is burned completely, it takes at least three hours. For us it was a bit strange, but it was quite normal for
The first night we did a boat trip on the Ganges and were some of the nightly ceremonies with music and singing experience, which was very fascinating. On the banks of the Ganges
we have also seen the oddest characters that seemed to somehow be lifted pretty much what to observe, however, very interesting was!
have Otherwise we looked at the mandatory temple, the Muslim quarter with a fully veiled women and an Indian concert. And I myself a relaxing day with massage and steam bath have done since I was pretty cold. Yes .. at night it's pretty cold here.
have on the last day I even made a sitar course, which was very interesting. I'd already be small since I had always heard, but had never played myself.
After four days we set off down the road to Nepal.
